Stunning, Scarce Balinese Wood Carving with Lovely Japanese Burlwood Display Platform.<br>Scarce and Beautiful. Highly Desirable with Exceptional Artistic Merit. The Bali "Shy Man" Yogi or "Weeping BUDDHA". Large Figure Statuette<br>.<br>Genuine, Authentic Balinese Wood Carving from the world renowned, Njana Tilem Gallery, Mas, Bali (signed by the Gallery on base).<br>Measures approx. 4.0" W x 4.0" D x 3.5" H inches.<br>Wood type is probably tropical Ironwood, possible banded Ebony (but don't hold me to it). Nice and heavy. Weighs a hefty 1 pound, 8 ounces (not including the display platform). Condition: Very good. No damage. True age unknown. Study all images. Free Shipping within the USA. Hundreds, if not thousands, of these figurines have been mass produced and thrown onto the market to satisfy the tourist trade. Unfortunately many tend to be made from lessor quality wood (i.e. monkey pod, et. al.) and simply do not possess the unique craftsmanship shown in this superb original example. This purchase includes a lovely burlwood display platform as shown. Platform is of Japanese origin (okimono) with characters on the base.  This stand lends excellent display accent to the piece. Study all images.<br>One of several explanations of the Shy Man legend:<br>"While he was still a young man, the warrior Buddha left his young son<br>to go and fight wars far over the oceans.  When he returned to the<br>Indonesian Islands many years later, in a ferocious battle he came<br>across an adversary wearing a mask.  In this particular battle and in<br>many following battles these two warriors fought, neither being able<br>to slay the other.  Then in one great battle the warrior Buddha<br>defeated the masked warrior and when he removed the mask he recognized<br>the face of his own son.  Upon this realization he started weeping and<br>renounced violence, hatred and all other principles that he had stood<br>for and started to travel around the world helping the young, the sick, the<br>aged and anyone else whom perhaps needed his help.  Thus he was now<br>called the Weeping Buddha.
